here's a secret.
i don't really have boys.
um.
they're MEN.
even zakk who is 16 is really 35.
and i'm leavin' them for three days.
they're 35 year old men! well, kinda.
and i'm lookin' at them sayin'
'you gonna be okay if hurricane hannah
comes thru?'
okay.
we live in maryland.
we'll be okay.
well.......there's always that weird chance
i told them as they rolled their eyes.
'remember when our pergola fell down?!' i
remind them. that was a hurricane, remember?!
and remember how we slept in the living room
cause the trees were gonna fall on the house?!
they roll their eyes.
okay.
okay.
okay.
i'm wonderin'......
will i lose the mothering thing when they're
95?! or does this go on forever.......

Yeah, my friend, I believe it goes on forever too. My 35 year old son lives in Key West and Hurricane Ike is heading straight for him. I'm not evacuating, he tells me. I know deep down there's a part of him that's a little scared, but the bigger part of him is saying, "Bring it on Ike! This is what I've been waiting for." I get scared, then I think of the time when he was 4 and walking around with a superman cape, red boots and a piece of string. We went somewhere in a friend's car and the tailpipe fell off. When my little superhero instructed us to use the string to tie up the pipe I almost peed my pants with pride and wonder. Sure the hurricane is big and the island small, but I have faith in the man/child. I bet your boys will do fine too.
