and the season begins....

and so she strings christmas lights.
early.
as he may not be here to see them if she
waits.

in pain, both in her body and in her heart,
she'll be climbing up here and there to
make those lights shine for him.

i think of the christmas lights i looked
at as i drove back and forth to the hospital
as my own dad lay dying.

funny....even when i was a kid those lights
were more than something pretty.
they were hope in the darkness.

i even felt it then.

i feel it way more now.
and the season begins.........

What a beautiful sentiment.
I don't think I'll ever curse the mass of tangled twinklies again ... unless I step on one of those plastic pointy thing that are supposed to make them look like flowers or something. Then I might let out a roar.

Remember the scene in Beaches when they put up the Christmas tree in June? I've never forgotten that.

I wonder would all the beauty of the Christmas season be even more beautiful at another time of year when one isn't feeling so frazzled and trapped into being jolly. I can only imagine that seeing a single strand of lights light up the night in say November, would make one say "AHHHHH" not Bah Humbug. I may just go put on some Christmas music and soak up the season before the madness begins.

Merry Christmas my friend. May you be surrounded by all that is holy.
