awesome quote!

ohhhh.....
read this last nite.....
had to share.......

'when i noticed someone teetering near the edge,
i would pray for her to walk around the abyss.
now i pray for something different. i pray that
each one of us stays awake as we fall. i pray
that we choose to go into the abyss willingly
and that our fall is cushioned by faith -
faith that at the bottom we will be caught and
taught and turned toward the light. i pray that
we don't waste precious energy feeling ashamed
of our mistakes, or embarrassed by our flaws.
after years of teaching, i know only a few
things for sure. one is this: we are chunks of
dense matter that need to be cracked open.
our errors and failings are chinks in the heart's
armor through which our true colors can shine.'

Beautiful! Do you know what I was thinking of when I read this? GEODES! How plain and ordinary they look until you crack them open and find the beauty that lies hidden inside.

awesome!! reminds me of your blog about it being the ones who do something with the pain that transcend it.

As you were reading your quote last night I was reading this from Rumi:

This being human is a guest house.
Each morning a new arrival.
A joy, a delight, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes to an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows who violently sweep your house empty of it's furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing out your house for some new delight.....

Ditto the above.
Falling into the abyss is pretty darn scary; falling into faith almost sounds like a soft, gentle, easy ride down. Doubt it's easy either way. I like the geode metaphor.

What a beautiful passage -- as I read it, I saw it play out like a movie in my head.
It really is like that isn't it? And it's wise to realize that we cannot deter others from paths they are set upon taking -- only to pray that their journey might end with some softness, some support...
