they had an open house for her.
to honor her retirement.
she had been at the post office
since i've moved in....17 years ago!
when the guys learned to drive,
they became the runners. and they
got to know her too!
she's a household name, and the guys
imitate her from time to time.
she was always the strict one.
the one who made you do it right.
can't tell you how many times she
corrected me with the rules.
she was the private one. she knew
everyone and checked in on everyone.
told the guys to take care of me.
when josh moved out, she told him to
keep his eye on me anyway.
that kinda thing.
but she never gave out too much of
her own life.
there she sat.
emotional and overwhelmed with the
people coming in and showing her love.
she leaned in close to me and told me
some stuff about herself.
i quietly acknowledged what she said,
and kept her privacy.
i've been thinking about her ever since.
she touched a gazillion lives just by doing
what she did at the post office every day.
she will be missed.
our town won't be the same without her.
and she really doesn't know that.
she really doesn't believe that.
the power and impact of each person is
staggering.
the blindness we all have towards that is
equally as staggering.
if we knew....if we really understood it,
knew it and believed it....
would we do anything differently???
